ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the specialty-training courses (The Role of a Pastor, The Role and Responsibility of the Minister, Women's Ministry Leadership and Financial Ministry Leadership) must complete all of the prerequisite courses or provide satisfactory documentation to the Director of the program for evaluation before acceptance to the program. All other courses offered do not require prior experience or certification. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) reserves the right to determine the validity of any degree, certificate, or license submitted as a requirement of admission. To be admitted to any of the classes all documentation and payment must be received 2 weeks prior to class. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) will offer continuous enrollment.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
The Instructor based on an evaluation of the student’s academic progress awards a Certificate of Completion for the successful completion of the class. All students are required to attend and must complete a minimum of 75% of in class work. Make up work will be at the discretion of the instructor. Excessive absences or tardiness will be determined by the instructor and possible probation or dismissal can occur. There will not be any dismissal of students because of unsatisfactory work. A leave of absence will be approved by instructors depending on the severity of the issue. Any student can reapply for any class if they cannot complete due to medical, family or other critical concerns. Suspension will occur if a student is disorderly, dangerous to him/herself and others, or found stealing, or mistreating others. Students will not be allowed to apply for other classes if it is determined that any of the following occurred.
EVALUATION
The Instructor evaluates the student’s work and academic progress according to the grading system. However, each instructor will provide the students with a syllabus at the beginning of each class and this will be in accordance with the grading criteria. However, the grading criteria may differ in number of points required for an assignment.
GRADING SYSTEM
For official transcripts, DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) employs a “pass-fail” grading system. Successful completion of a semester is recorded as “Pass or No Credit.” Failure is recorded as “No Credit,” and no credits are accumulated. “Incomplete” and “Withdrawal” are recorded appropriately. Students who receive “Incomplete” must resolve it within a year or a permanent grade of “No Credit” is recorded for the class. Reports of passing grades are issued only by student’s request. Students will receive written notice whenever a grade other than “Pass” is awarded.
GRADING SYSTEM (POINTS)
- Reading: 20 Points (The reading of any assigned periodical literature, commentaries, Bible or book (s).
- Quizzes: 25 Points (Weekly quizzes that are based on the required reading and lectures).
- Homework: 25 Points (There will be a weekly essay on a specific topic)
- Class Participation: 30 Points (1) Attendance as outlined in the student catalog-15 points.
- (2) The student is expected to come to each class session prepared to participate on the topic indicated in the syllabus-15 points.

GRADING CRITERIA
- DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) approved instructor teaches the course.
- The course must cover a minimum of 12 weeks (2 hour sessions) with a 15-minute break.
- Each student who receives credit must attend 10 of the 12-week sessions or a minimum of 20 hours per course. For specialty classes must attend at least 3 of the 4 weeks of class.
- Each student who receives credit must purchase and read the required DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) textbook (s).
- Each student must successfully complete requirements outlined in the syllabus provided by the instructor.
The requirements for earning a Certificate of Achievement are as listed:
- Successful completion of any class.
The requirements for earning a Diploma are as listed:
- Successful completion of nine out of the twelve classes offered.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants to DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) must submit in one complete package:
- Submission of a completed registration/admission form and student contract.
- $25 non-refundable application fee payment in full.
COURSE TIME FRAME
Preparation classes are a 12-week course for two clock hours per class with a 15-minute break. Students must complete at least 10 out of the 12 weeks to successfully complete the semester. Classes are held once a week for two hours per session with a fifteen-minute break per class. Specialty classes are four consecutive Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., six clock hours per class with a forty-five minute break.
ACADEMIC AND CONDUCT REQUIREMENTS
Students who fail to satisfy DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) attendance and progress requirements are notified in writing by the business office. A student whose conduct is deemed detrimental to the DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) may be dismissed. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) expects students to conduct their personal and professional lives responsibly, ethically, and in a manner that respects the integrity of each individual. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) publishes the Student Catalog, which provides specifics on reasonable social behavior. Criminal or disruptive conduct, harassment, or insubordination is considered grounds for dismissal. The following: Academic misconduct will result is permanent dismissal from DBI: Theft of another individual’s belongings. Assault: Intentionally causing or attempting to cause physical harm or injury to another through force or violence. Rationale: Destruction of property, Safety of others will result in dismissal without the option to attend other classes.
PROBATION AND DISMISSAL
Probation or dismissal is necessary as outlined under Academic & Conduct Requirements.
STUDENT RECORDS AND TRANSCRIPT INFORMATION
DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) maintains student records for five (5) years. Detroit Bible Institute will keep all student transcripts electronically utilizing computer software. Hard copies of student’s records and transcripts will be filed in a locked filing cabinet. Requests for transcripts must be made in writing. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) will issue its own transcripts, but will not issue copies of transcripts from other institutions. A fee of $5 is charged for each official transcript. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) will issue letters of recommendation placed in a student’s file for reference purposes upon the student’s request. DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) will not issue copies of letters used to secure the student’s admission to DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI). No other documents pertaining to the student or the student’s work will be copied or released.
REGISTRATION FEES & COST PER CLASS
- The cost of registration is a non-refundable fee of $25.00.
- Tuition for one class is $75.00.
Each additional class within a year of the first day of class is an additional $50.00 per class.
The maximum amount for diploma program the program (7 core classes plus one specialty class) is $800.00 (this amount includes $25 per registration, per class and $75 per class. No discount is included in the total).
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants to DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) must submit in one complete package for the specialty classes:
- Completed registration/admission form.
- $25 non-refundable application fee and tuition.
- Completion of the student contract.
- (Specialty Classes) An autobiographical statement, describing how the applicant came to pursue the specialty coursework. Three letters of references from instructors, Pastor, colleagues, or friends or a license to minister from a recognized Protestant organization.
The Director will notify accepted students for the specialty classes (The Role of a Pastor, The Role and Responsibility of the Minister, Women's Ministry Leadership and Financial Ministry Leadership).

FINANCIAL INFORMATION
DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) offers tuition or financial aid to members only. The members must be in good standing and must meet all of the requirements to become a member of Evangel Ministries. The student must provide evidence of financial hardship. All tuition/fees must be paid in full two weeks prior to the first day of class.
WITHDRAWALS AND REFUND POLICY
A student wishing to withdraw from DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) must submit written notice to the Director, who also acts as Registrar. Failure to attend or mere verbal notification will not be regarded as official notice of withdrawal. Should the student not submit the prescribed notice of withdrawal, the Director, in consultation with the appropriate leadership, will determine the official date of withdrawal. Refund will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, rounded down to the nearest dollar. A pro-rata refund is based on the portion of the period of enrollment that remains on the last recorded day of attendance by the student, up to 60 percent point in time for the period the student has been charged. “All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if the applicant is rejected by the school before enrollment. The school may retain an applicant fee of not more than $25.00 if the applicant is denied. All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested within three business days after signing a contract with the school. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days.”
CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS EDUCATION & TRAINING
Students who received a license to minister or ordination from a recognized Protestant Christian organization will be allowed to register for the specialty courses. All other classes do not require any previous credit or educational training. There are no prerequisites for any of the offered classes. Credit will be given to students who have successfully completed courses under the instruction of Evangel Ministries. The credit will be given for only classes offered.
REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION
A Diploma will be given for the successful completion of the Biblical Studies Program conducted by DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI). A public graduation ceremony will take place for those who successfully complete the requirements. Successful students will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony where the diploma will be offered to the student.
EQUIPMENT TO BE FURNISHED BY STUDENT & SCHOOL
No equipment is required for any of the offered classes by the student or the school.
PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE & HEALTH SERVICES
Placement assistance is not available through the DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI). Classes are not for employment purposes. Additionally, health services are not available. PLEASE SEE SAFETY ACTION PLAN (located in the main office).
POLICY ON CATALOG CHANGES
DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) makes every effort to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of the information provided in the catalog. However, DETROIT BIBLE INSTITUTE (DBI) reserves the right to change or adjust policies or information provided in the catalog at any time and without prior notice.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE
Students are expected to adhere to the requirements of the instructor as outlined in the required syllabus. The instructor will provide each student with requirements to successfully complete his/her class. Each student is responsible for ensuring the requirements are met to the expectations of the instructor. All students are expected to adhere to the academic and conduct policies set forth in the catalog.
All Courses will be held in the lower level of the church (Evangel Ministries). Upon completion of registration the classroom will be assigned according to the number of students. All classrooms will be furnished with the necessary equipment to successfully conduct class. Students are required to keep certificates of completions and diplomas.
